CLA sells licences to business, government and educational institutions on behalf of the authors, visual artists and publishers who are the copyright owners.
We represent members of the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society Limited (ALCS).
The money we collect in licence fees for authors is paid to ALCS who in turn distribute it to the authors whose work has been copied.
If your books, or magazines and journals containing your work, are available to be photocopied or scanned in schools, universities, businesses or libraries then you may be entitled to a share of the licence fees that CLA collect.
In order to make sure you receive your share of this income, you should register all your books with ALCS as well as any magazine or journal articles written in the last 3 years.
Even though you may not be a member, ALCS might still be holding royalties for you. You can check using a 'search for royalties' facility on their website.
If you would like to join the 72,000 other UK writers and become a member of ALCS or find out more about their work please visit www.alcs.co.uk or call ALCS on 020 7264 5700.
