Welcome to the New Year! After hitting some significant milestones with the Digital Content Store (DCS) in 2016, it’s now time for us to look forward to the coming year.
So what can you expect? Well, our third phase of development is continuing at full speed, mainly focusing on improving the user experience of the DCS, as well as making it practical to implement for more users by extending our authentication options. Key improvements that we’re looking to make over the next few months include:
- EZProxy authenitcation
- WAYFless integration to streamline current authentication methods
- Enhancements to the EHESS integration
- General user interface refinement
- And improvements to the data provided on the HEI report
Another major aspect of the system that we’re looking to improve is how our bibliographic metadata works in the background. We hope to provide a more consistent presentation of bibliographic metadata and more accurate data. This is a large task that we’re taking on (we hope to have completed by the start of the 2017/18 academic year) but we’re excited about the potential this work has to make the DCS an even better resource for information professionals.
Further into the future of the DCS and our main aim is to continue to make the system a suitable and useful workflow system for all users. Whether that’s by investigating additional authentication options, partnering with additional LMS providers, or by creating new functionality to cater for different types of users then we’re interested in exploring it! We’re already investigating integration with LMS systems provided by Capita, how we might be able to use Office 365 to provide access to the DCS and how we could provide academics with the ability to send requests directly to the DCS. However, we’re always interested in hearing what further improvements you feel could improve the system, so if you’ve got an idea or two, please email us at intouch@cla.co.uk.
