Preliminary judging for the Shake It Up arrangement competition for Schools has now concluded and a shortlist of six arrangements will go on to the final judging panel.
It's been a fantastic first year for Shake It Up! We were blown away by the quality of entries from schools all over the UK; it proved quite a challenge to narrow down the entries to just six pieces! It was fantastic to see how so many teachers had used their institution's Schools Printed Music Licence (SPML) to get their students interested in music. We're sure all the children had a great time learning these arrangements!
The six shortlisted entries will now go forward to our panel of star judges who will be making their decision based on the arranging skill of each entry, the quality of the arranged piece, and the entrant's description of how and why they'd made the arrangement and why learning to read printed music is an important skill for children.
The awards ceremony will be held on the 10th of May, where our judging panel will announce the winner and two runners up. The winner will win £700 worth of music equipment for their school, and each runner up will get £400 worth of the same.
Thank you to everyone who came and talked to us at a Music and Drama Education Expo (Manchester and London!), everyone who helped spread the word about Shake It Up to their friends and colleagues (either by taking our flyers to hand out, putting posters up around their schools, or sharing on social media), and - above all - everyone who sent us an entry.
Due to the success of this first year, we are delighted to announce that the Shake It Up competition will return later this year. We'll keep you updated as the competition approaches. We hope to see familiar faces as well as first-timers entering a new batch of amazing printed music arrangements!
About Shake It Up and Schools Printed Music Licence
Shake It Up is a competition presented by the Schools Printed Music Licence (SPML). The competition invites teachers to make the most of their schools' SPML through innovative use of printed music. Schools covered by the SPML are provided annual blanket permission to copy and reuse printed music in various ways. To learn more about what the SPML allows, or whether your school is covered under it, see our Schools Printed Music Licence page for more details.
