DCS reaches new milestones and completes latest development phase

20th November 2017

The Digital Content Store, our innovative copyright and course-pack management tool for Higher Education (HE), included in the HE Licence as an optional service, continues to go from strength to strength, recently completing its most recent phase of development and reaching over two million student downloads of content.

Infographic showing DCS statisticsIn our most recent phase of development we have introduced several new features to the system. These comprise of an easily accessible Student Reader that opens in any browser and an academic request form that allows academic staff to submit digitisation requests to librarians directly into the DCS. These new features will improve student experience and simplify their access to content, while also streamlining the workflows of digitisation teams.

Other new improvements that have been added to the system include integration with Innovative's Sierra Library Management System, improved security updates, new reporting functionality, and the new 'email to lecturer' button. These changes are a direct result of working in collaboration with our customers to ensure the highest quality of usability on the system.

As the DCS has developed, so has it grown in the size of its community. There are now over 80 institutions currently using the DCS, with over 50% of students in the UK being delivered digital content by the system. To date, there have been over two million student downloads from the DCS.

Looking to the future, we aim to continue developing the DCS to make it the most effective copyright and course-pack management tool possible for Higher Education Institutions, making copyright simple for librarians and improving student's access to the valuable content they need.

About the DCS

The DCS is an optional innovative rights, technology and content platform for Higher Education developed by CLA together with HEIs, publishers and technology partners and is part of the Higher Education Licence. The DCS is, at its core, a searchable repository of PDF extracts created by HEIs and a workflow management tool. When extracts are digitised by HEIs under the CLA Licence, they are uploaded directly to the DCS. Once an extract is uploaded and assigned to a course, students can access the extract via a secure link to the content held in the DCS.
