CLA sells licences to business, government and educational institutions on behalf of the publishers and individual creators who are the copyright owners.
We represent publishers who are members of the UK voluntary collective licensing scheme administered by the Publishers Licensing Society Limited (PLS).
The money we collect in licence fees for publishers is paid to PLS who in turn distribute it to publishers whose titles who have been copied.
If you publish any type of work whether it is a newsletter, books, printed reports, online bulletin or similar but not a member of this scheme, you can join over 2,600 other publishers throughout the UK who already are, simply by contacting PLS.
There are no joining or 'membership' fees and by providing a 'licensing mandate' you will qualify for a share of the licence fees should your works be identified in CLA surveys as being copied.
As a mandating publisher you will be consulted, and have input into, the terms and conditions of CLA licences that are relevant to your area of publishing.
PLS is owned 'by publishers' via the PA, PPA and ALPSP, and will always work on behalf of publishers to protect their rights.
