CLA represents international rightsholders through its bilateral agreements with overseas reproduction rights organisations (RROs).
These agreements enable CLA to collect money for the copying of overseas works and publications. This money is then distributed to international rightsholders via their local RROs.
All our international agreements include photocopying and in many cases include scanning and the re-use of digital materials.
There are three types of bilateral agreement concerning the reciprocal exchange of repertoire and fees between RROs;
- 'Type A' - authorises a full exchange of repertoire and fees in accordance with the principle of 'National Treatment'.
- 'Type AB' - is a graduated agreement starting with an exchange of repertoire only, (so that each RRO may license the others repertoire) and progressing towards a reciprocal exchange of fees over time, thereby converting to a 'Type A' agreement.
- Digital Repertoire Exchange agreement - authorising a full exchange of repertoire and fees in accordance with the principle of 'National Treatment' and including the exchange of digital rights.
