The collective licensing undertaken by CLA on behalf of creators and publishers helps to protect and sustain their creativity. This, in turn, contributes to the value of the UK creative industries.
Some facts and figures about the value of the UK creative industries

- The creative industries in the UK contribute 6.4% to the UK economy.
- The 9 sectors making up the creative industries support over 1.9m jobs and the employment growth rate of 2% p.a. is twice the average for the economy as a whole.
- The publishing industry, largely based in and around the City of London, is the second largest sector within the creative industries, employing 270,000 people in 6,700 businesses.
- The sector with the largest rate of growth between 1997-2006 is Software and Electronic Publishing with an average growth of 10% p.a.
- Exports of services by the creative industries totalled £16 billion in 2006. This equates to 4.3% of all goods and services exported.
- In 2008 there were an estimated 157,400 businesses in the creative industries, representing 7.3% of all companies.
