Information about professional employees
Licence fees for the CLA business licence are calculated using the number of professional employees.
Professional employees should include any employees in the following categories, based on the Standard Occupational Classifications (SOC) published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Group 1: Managers and senior officials
Group 2: Professional occupations
Group 3: Associate professional and technical occupations
A full breakdown of the specific job titles within these groups can be found on the ONS website www.statistics.gov.uk in the 'About statistics' section.
There is no need to conduct an in depth analysis of of your company's staff to obtain this figure. Provided that salaried staff as indicated by your payroll correspond to the SOC, the number of those staff will be acceptable.
