From April the 1st 2012
For firms with 50 employees or less, annual flat-rate licence fees apply:
- Firms with 1 - 10 employees - £170.00 (+VAT)
- Firms with 11 - 50 employees - £520.00 (+VAT)
For larger firms of 51 employees or more the annual fee is calculated by multiplying the number of ‘Professional Employees’ in your organisation by the rate card unit fee for the law licence.
For example, if you have 100 total employees and 20 of those are identified as Professional Employees, the annual fee for the law licence would be 20 x £34.00 = £680.00 (+VAT)
Please note that for firms with 51 employees or more, a minimum annual fee of £520.00 applies.
Definition of ‘Professional Employee’
Although your CLA licence will enable any employee to benefit from the permissions provided, the fee payable for firms with 51 employees or more is based only on the number of 'Professional Employees' in the firm.
For the purposes of the fee calculation 'Professional Employee' is defined as:
- Qualified solicitors
- Barristers
- Qualified legal executives
- Other professional qualified staff e.g. accountants, HR managers, information professionals etc.
Backdated indemnity
It is possible for the law licence to be backdated to cover any previous copying that may have occurred within a firm or chambers. Licence fees for backdated indemnity are charged at the current licence rate in respect of each year for which indemnity is required. Further information can be fond on the Law Licence rate card.
