How to calculate the licence fee

The annual fee for the CLA Business Licence is calculated by multiplying the number of ‘professional employees' in your organisation by the rate card unit fee of the licence you wish to take.

Definition of ‘professional employee'

Although your CLA licence will enable any employee to benefit from the permissions provided, the fee that you pay is based only on the number of 'professional employees' in your organisation.

For the purposes of the fee calculation 'professional employee' is defined as an employee, contracted worker or consultant in the following categories based on the Standard Occupational Classifications published by The Office for National Statistics (ONS):

  • Group 1: Managers and Senior Officials
  • Group 2: Professional Occupations
  • Group 3: Associate Professional and Technical Occupations.

The ONS website provides a full breakdown of job titles within these groups.

There may be no need to conduct an in-depth analysis of your company's staff to obtain this figure as your payroll may be able to classify staff on this basis. If you need guidance or advice on this please contact one of our team on 0800 0856644
