UUK/GuildHE members

UUK/GuildHE members are covered by central licences negotiated with UniversitiesUK/GuildHE.

Comprehensive Licence

The Comprehensive HE Licence permits HEIs to make multiple photocopies and scan extracts from printed books,  journals and magazines and in addition allows the copying and re-use of digital material such as electronic or online publications. To see a summary of the main features and benefits of this licence click here.

To accompany the Comprehensive Licence we have published a set of User Guidelines and a Notice for Display for licensees advising what can, and cannot, be copied.

For details on the reporting requirements that are applicable to the licence please see below.

Basic licence (photocopying and scanning only)

We also have a Photocopying and Scanning HE Licence. If you require details of the basic licence please click here.

Licence restrictions

Please note that there are some works that are excluded from all CLA licences and may not be copied in any form. These works are listed on the list of Excluded categories and works.

There are also some US publishers that are specifically excluded from all CLA licences. See the list of Excluded US publishers.

In addition, HE customers should also refer to the separate list of Works excluded from scanning under the HE licence.

Under the terms of the Comprehensive HE licence, only certain digital material can be copied or re-used. See list of Included digital material.

Electronic mailing list

To keep licence holders fully informed about latest announcements and developments, we have established an electronic mailing list;

Information posted to this noticeboard relates to the UUK/Guild HE Licence.

The list is free of charge to employees of UUK/Guild HE HEIs and there is no upper limit to the number of staff joining from any university or college.

Previous messages posted since September 2002 can be accessed by means of the Search Archives facility.

Plagiarism Advisory Service
Plagiarism consists of presenting someone else’s work – by means of either word-for-word copying or close paraphrasing – and “passing off” as your own.
While not every act of plagiarism may be an infringement of copyright law, each instance constitutes a breach of academic regulations and is detrimental to the authors and publishers whose work is used in this way.

In conjunction with the Publishers Licensing Society (PLS), the Authors Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) and the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), CLA supports the efforts of the JISC Plagiarism Advisory Service in preventing and detecting student plagiarism in Higher Education.
