Independent FE and vocational training colleges
The current trial licensing scheme for independent FE colleges is effective annually and runs from August to July each year.
The current licence allows the following usage:
- scan extracts from books, journals and periodicals (Licensed Material)
retype extracts from Licensed Material onto a computer
storage for the duration of the licence
incorporate digital copies into presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint™)
send copies by fax
email copies to authorised users
use copies on a VLE / MLE / college intranet
receive Digital Copies supplied under other CLA licences
A discount is offered by CLA to independent FE colleges accredited by the British Accreditation Council. Each independent FE college has its own licence, which must be obtained directly from CLA.

Licence restrictions
Please note that there are some works that are excluded from all CLA licences and may not be copied in any form. These works are listed on the list of Excluded categories and works.
There are also some US publishers whose works are specifically excluded from all CLA licences. See the list of Excluded US publishers.
Please also note that FE licences currently only permit the scanning of UK works only.
